Modern LED Recessed Lighting — Clean Install, Even Light, Zero Mess

LED recessed lights — also called pot lights or can lights — are one of the most popular home upgrades in Orangevale and the Sacramento area. They replace outdated fixtures with clean, flush ceiling lights that brighten rooms evenly without harsh shadows. Paired with compatible dimmers, they give you complete control over the mood in living rooms, kitchens, hallways, and bedrooms. The difference between a good install and a bad one is layout planning and electrical work — that’s exactly where we focus. We plan spacing before cutting a single hole, run wiring cleanly through walls and ceilings, and finish with minimal visible cuts and zero mess left behind.

Layout & Spacing Plan

We plan fixture spacing before cutting any holes — ensuring even light distribution with no hot spots, dark corners, or awkward placement near walls or fans.

  • Room size and ceiling height considered
  • Fixture count and spacing mapped out first
  • Trim style and color temperature guidance

Clean Electrical Wiring

Safe wiring is the foundation of every lighting install. We run circuits cleanly through walls and ceilings, check existing circuit capacity, and add new circuits when needed.

  • Existing circuit load check
  • New circuit added when required
  • All connections made to code

Dimmer Switch Setup

Not all dimmers work with all LEDs — we match the right dimmer to your fixtures for flicker-free, smooth performance across the full dimming range.

  • Compatible dimmer selection
  • Flicker-free performance verified
  • Multi-switch setup available

Where We Install LED Pot Lights

Every room has different lighting needs. Here’s how we approach the most common spaces.

Living Rooms

Even ambient light across a large space — with dimmer control so you can go from bright for cleaning to low for movie night. We plan fixture count to eliminate dark corners.

Kitchens

Task lighting directly over counters and cooking areas — no shadows from overhead cabinets. We position fixtures to complement island pendants and under-cabinet lighting.

Hallways & Entryways

Clean, bright hallway lighting with evenly spaced fixtures that make narrow spaces feel larger. No more single bulb fixtures or dark transition zones between rooms.

Bedrooms

Soft, dimmable overhead lighting that replaces ceiling fans with light kits or outdated fixtures. Dimmer control lets you set the right level for reading, relaxing, or sleeping.

Bathrooms

Moisture-rated fixtures installed correctly for wet and damp locations. We position lights to reduce shadows near mirrors and vanities for better visibility.

Garages & Basements

Bright, functional lighting for work areas and storage spaces. We size fixture count and wattage to fully illuminate the space — no more dark corners where you need to see.

What to Expect From Your LED Lighting Install

Here’s exactly how we approach every recessed lighting job from first call to finished install.

Before the Install

  • We review the room — size, ceiling type, existing wiring, and your goals
  • Fixture count, spacing, and placement mapped before any holes are cut
  • Existing circuit capacity confirmed — new circuit added if needed
  • Written quote provided — you approve everything before we start
  • Fixture type selected — IC-rated for insulated ceilings where required

The Install Day

  • Holes cut precisely to fixture size — no overcuts or rough edges
  • Wiring run cleanly through ceiling cavity — minimal visible work
  • Fixtures seated flush with ceiling — no gaps or uneven trim
  • Dimmer switch installed and matched to fixture type
  • All drywall dust cleaned up before we leave

Before We Leave

  • Every fixture tested — full brightness and dimmer range verified
  • Flicker-free dimming confirmed — if not, dimmer swapped on the spot
  • Breaker labeled for the new lighting circuit
  • You walk through the result and approve the finished look
  • Any questions about settings or future additions answered

What We Never Do

  • Overload existing circuits — we check load before adding fixtures
  • Use non-IC fixtures in insulated ceilings — fire risk, code violation
  • Guess at dimmer compatibility — we match dimmers to LEDs correctly
  • Leave holes, dust, or debris behind
  • Start work without your written approval of the quote

Sammy is fantastic! Grid Plus does great work, are very fast and offer competitive pricing. They did a major upgrade to our electrical service, replaced main and sub panels, replaced old, ungrounded circuits with new, and added new circuits for an electric dryer, water heater and EV charger. He also coordinated with SMUD for a larger gauge drop. All work was done smoothly and efficiently. Sammy kept us apprised of all steps and was always open to questions and requests. They set up an EV charger for some friends of ours and they were really happy with Grid Plus as well. We have and will continue to recommend Sammy and Grid Plus.

Hired Sami at Grid Plus Electric for an electrical panel replacement and an EV charger install. I got several bids for this job and asked every contractor a long list of questions. Sami answered every single one patiently and honestly, even when the honest answer wasn’t the one that made him the most money. He was also easy to reach the whole way through — a quick call or text and he’d get right back to me. Anyone who’s dealt with contractors knows how rare both of those are.

His price was very competitive, the work was clean, everything passed inspection, and he handled the utility rebate paperwork. When the charger didn’t arrive in time for install day, he came back on a second trip to install it, no complaints and no surprise charges.

Friendly, straightforward, and does exactly what he says he will. If you’re in the Sacramento area and need panel work or an EV charger install, hire Sami. Highly recommend!

Working with Sammy was amazing. He was the first technician to get in contact with me and was at my home within 30min of connecting with me. He was able to diagnose and resolve the problem in less than an hour. And at the last minute I requested additional items to complete and he had all the materials to get the job done. He provided a great price for the quality of work he performed. On top of that he sent detailed explanations, pictures, and videos to assess the problems and show proof of completion, which I greatly appreciated

LED Recessed Lighting FAQ

Common questions about pot light installation in Orangevale, Folsom, and the Sacramento area.

How many recessed lights do I need for a room?
A general rule is one fixture for every 4–6 square feet of ceiling, but it depends on ceiling height, fixture beam angle, and how bright you want the space. For a standard 12×12 living room with 8ft ceilings, 6–8 fixtures evenly spaced usually works well. We plan the layout before cutting any holes — so you see the spacing on paper before we commit to anything.
Can you add dimmer switches for recessed lighting?
Yes — and dimmer compatibility matters more than most people realize. Not all dimmers work with all LED fixtures. A mismatched dimmer causes flickering, buzzing, or a limited dimming range. We match the dimmer to your specific fixtures and verify flicker-free performance across the full range before we leave.
Do recessed lights require new electrical wiring?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If you’re adding lights to a room that currently has a ceiling fixture, we can often extend from the existing circuit. For larger installs — especially kitchens or living rooms with many fixtures — we typically add a dedicated circuit for better load handling and future flexibility. We check your existing wiring before quoting so there are no surprises.
Do you install recessed lights in insulated ceilings?
Yes — but it requires IC-rated (insulation contact) fixtures, which are specifically designed to be covered by insulation without becoming a fire hazard. Using non-IC fixtures in insulated ceilings is a code violation and a real fire risk. We always select the correct fixture type for your ceiling construction.
How much drywall damage should I expect?
For a standard recessed lighting install, the only holes in your ceiling are the fixture cutouts themselves — typically 4″ or 6″ circles. We fish wiring through the ceiling cavity without opening up large sections of drywall. In most single-story homes with attic access, there’s very minimal ceiling disruption. Multi-story homes with finished ceilings may require a small access hole for wiring — we discuss this upfront.
What color temperature should I choose for my LED lights?
For most living spaces — living rooms, bedrooms, hallways — 2700K (warm white) or 3000K (soft white) gives a comfortable, inviting feel similar to traditional incandescent bulbs. Kitchens and bathrooms often work better at 3000K–4000K for better visibility and a cleaner look. We can advise on the right choice for each room based on your preferences.
Can you give a written quote before starting?
Always. We assess the room, plan the layout, confirm electrical requirements, and provide a written quote covering all labor, materials, and fixtures before any work begins. You approve the scope and price — no holes get cut until you say go.
Do you serve Orangevale, Folsom, and the Sacramento area?
Yes — we’re based in Orangevale and serve Folsom, Fair Oaks, Citrus Heights, Roseville, Granite Bay, Rancho Cordova, Carmichael, El Dorado Hills, Rocklin, Lincoln, and the broader Sacramento region. Call to confirm availability for your address.
